National Minimum Wage

Working hard all day and still not earning enough to live off? If you are aged 22 or over then your employer must pay you a wage of at least £4.85 an hour, regardless of the job you do.

If you are unsure of your hourly rate, look at your payslip and divide your gross pay (before deductions) by the number of hours worked in the period (week or month) that the pay slip applies to. This figure must be at least £5.52.

Younger workers should not despair. Employees aged 18 to 21 must be paid at least £4.60 an hour. There's also a minimum wage for 16 and 17-year olds, who must now be paid at least £3.40 an hour.

If you are not getting NMW you can call the Inland Revenue’s confidential helpline on 0845 6000 678.  They promise that all complaints made to the helpline will be followed up and that they will respect any wish to remain anonymous.
